Maoists to continue protests to uphold ‘civilian supremacy’

Unified CPN (Maoist) on Friday decided to continue with their nationwide protest programmes until the President’s move on the army chief row and the issue of ‘civilian supremacy’ are not allowed to be taken up for discussion in the House.

The Parliamentary Party meeting of the UCPN (Maoist) held in Singha Durbar concluded that there can be political consensus to end the current deadlock only if the House is allowed to discuss the President’s ‘unconstitution move’ on the row.

Senior Maoist leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha said the PP meeting decided to continue struggle both from the parliament and the street until their demands on ‘civilian supremacy’ are not addressed.

He said only after forging a consensus on this issue (with other political parties) can there be talk on the High Level Political Mechanism and other issues of import.

Similarly, the meeting also decided to bar Maoist lawmakers from going on foreign visits without seeking approval from the parliamentary party board and decided to collect one thousand rupees from each Maoist lawmakers to donate to flood victims of western Nepal.
