Police clash with illegal settlers in Mahottari, 8 injured
Eight people, including two policemen, were injured in a clash between security personnel and illegal settlers in Mathiyani of Mahottari district on Sunday. The clash ensued after a team of policemen resorted to force to evict settlers from the land they had illegally occupied in the district.
The illegal settlers started pelting stones at the police after the latter tried to force them out from the land on the orders of the local authority. The settlers had built make-shift huts and camps in the land.
Police had to fire several rounds of tear gas shells to disperse the increasingly violent illegal settlers and finally succeeded in bringing the situation under control. In the process, six settlers were injured while two policemen were hurt by the stones pelted by the mob.
Few months back, seven persons, including a policeman, were killed in a clash between security personnel and illegal settlers backed by Maoists in Dudejhari of Kailalai district.
