The Standing Committee Meeting of our glorious party, the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), was held from January 27, 2010 to February 3, 2010. Clarifying the historical tasks before the party, movement and the Nepalese people, the meeting, which was held at a very serious and sensitive turning-point of our country, was successfully concluded by preparing guideline and plan to accomplish them. This press release has been issued to make public the important decisions of the meeting, which was chaired by Party Chairman Comrade Prachanda.

1.       In the beginning of the meeting, emotional homage was paid to those entire martyrs, known and unknown, who laid down their lives in the course of great people’s war, historical mass movement and other occasions to emancipate Nepal and the Nepalese people.

2.       The meeting admitted  with full seriousness the reality that the Chairman Comrade Prachanda, who as a centralized expression of collective leadership has played the main role to synthesize and determine party line (idea, line and policy) has been providing a correct and an adept leadership to the party and the revolutionary movement. Against the truth that the party has been going ahead successfully with the correct centralization of idea and leadership, the meeting has concluded that the all round attack and misinformation by detaching the line and leadership and all round attack upon the leaders including the main leadership is a well planned conspiracy, which on the part of the reactionary and opportunist forces is aimed at attacking upon party and its authentic line and dividing the party itself. The meeting, calling upon the entire party ranks and the masses to remain heedful on such conspiracies, has expressed its resolve to go ahead unitedly and firmly towards the revolutionary goal.

3.       In order to foil the conspiracies hatched by domestic and foreign elements against peace and the new constitution, a decision has been taken to focus attention on the task of making the peace-process a success consistent with the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and writing people’s federal republican constitution. The meeting has clarified  that people’s right to rebel will remain reserved if conspired against it. For that, paying attention to the seriousness and sensitivity of the situation, entire patriotic, republican and pro-constitution forces are called upon to come forward unitedly. People’s War Anniversary: ‘Hopes, challenges ahead’

Coinciding with the 15th anniversary of ‘People’s War’, the UCPN (Maoist) on Saturday launched its fifth phase of protests aimed at ‘reaching out to people’ across the country to ensure peace, statute and national sovereignty.

Although certain goals are met, there are challenges ahead, reads a press statement issued by the party on the occasion of the anniversary. It also calls on all the nationalist, democratic and republican forces to unite to ensure the success of people’s revolution.

Inaugurating national sports championship organised by the Sports Club of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to mark the anniversary, Maoist Chairman Puhspa Kamal Dahal said peace and statute were the need of the day. “But some forces are still acting against peace and statute. We will wage a decisive battle to foil such ploys,” said Dahal. “I want to take this opportunity to remind you all that our revolution is at a decisive point with possibilities and challenges galore.”

While their leaders in the Constituent Assembly are working towards changing the national flag of Nepal angering millions of patriotic Nepalis all over the country, the Maoist guerillas yesterday not only carried and hoisted the Sun and Moon in a cantonment but also removed their party flag. The guerillas abandoned their party’s flag and opted for the national flag on an important day for them: the 15th anniversary of the People’s War in Nepal. The cantonment in Badaipur of Kailali district was decorated like a bride with the national flag and the People’s Liberation Army’s flag being hoisted at the distance of every 5 meters. The PLA had removed photos of the Maoist leaders as well.

“If any thing obstructs the integration process or the overall development of the country, we are ready to abandon that,” said co-commander Jeevan. “We removed the party flag respecting concerns at some quarters that putting the party flag makes the PLA affiliated to the Maoist.”

Well, that’s not the whole truth.  The PLA is still under Maoist control and they haven’t abandoned the Maoist philosophy and affiliation. The chief guest of the anniversary ceremony in this cantonment a central leader of the Maoist party. Politbureau member Lekh Raj Bhatta said that PLA was the strength of the Maoist party. “We are still under the party,” said co-commander Jeevan. “So, we haven’t abandoned party flag and photos of leaders formally.”

But the PLA didn’t play the Communist’s international song that they used to play in many such occasions. Instead, they played the national anthem and their own song. Read the rest of this entry »
