Bhattarai Tells Students To Be Ready For Stir

“If the nation does not get a new constitution, the country will take a new turn and revolt will be a must.”

KIRTIPUR: UCPN-M Vice Chairman Baburam Bhattarai today directed students aligned to his party to be ready of another protest.

Addressing the students in the closed-door session of the 18th National Convention of All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R), the student wing of the Unified CPN-Maoist today, Bhattarai said if anybody tried to obstruct the constitution-drafting and peace processes, students would have to unite to launch a revolt.

“Like in the past, students should be on their toes to lead any kind of protest against regressive forces,” said the vice chairman.

“If the nation does not get a new constitution, the country will take a new turn and revolt will be a must.”

In the first half, five state committees and other committees addressed the ongoing convention; in the second half, the central committee members presented a model statute, policies and programmes.

Himal Sharma, ANNISU-R general secretary, presented a statute amendment proposal, whereas other members presented further educational programmes and policies.

Sharma said they discussed the statute amendment, new policies and programmes with members of state committees and others. “The discussion will continue till tomorrow,” said Sharma.

After receiving feedback from the state committees, their programmes and policies will be passed and the process of selecting the new central committee will begin. Till date, the new central committee is expected to be announced unanimously.

According to Ratna Dhakal, secretariat member of the union, senior leaders such as Mohan Baidhya and Narayan Kaji Shrestha will train ANNISU-R-affiliated students tomorrow.
