Nepal: Maoists Announce New Youth Wing Formation

KATHMANDU: The UCPN-Maoist on Tuesday announced that it has formed a new youth front–People’s Volunteers Mobilisation Bureau– and said it will focus on “development work and people’s security.”

Maoist Politburo member Netra Bikram Chand is the coordinator of the new organisation that has been set up taking up members of Young Communist League, Maoists’ student wing and the disqualified Maoist combatants. Maoist central leader Devendra Poudel and YCL in-charge Ganesh Man Pun are also in it,.

A programme was organised to announce the formation of the Bureau at the Maoist headquarters in Perisdanda in the Capital this afternoon. Read the rest of this entry »

Diplomatic cables released today show that former US Ambassador James F. Moriarty was actively trying to destabilise Nepal’s peace process in order to prevent a Maoist rise to power. It reveals a  bitter man,  utterly convinced that the peace process endorsed by the Maoists in 2006 was a temporary ploy to help them advance their revolutionary agenda… and it shows how determined he was to block that process. Nepal: Maoists to set up People’s Volunteers

“We know that the anti-revolutionary and reactionary forces are hand in gloves. So we are setting up a new force to defeat them”

PALPA, March 6: Maoists have stepped up efforts to create yet another combative force called “People´s Volunteers Group” as part of their preparations for “people´s revolt” with the party planning to mobilize some five hundred thousand youths for “people´s service”. According to the leaders of the party, the youths would also be deployed to foil any attempts of reactionaries against the peace process and constitution-drafting.

“We know that the anti-revolutionary and reactionary forces are hand in gloves. So we are setting up a new force to defeat them,” said Maoist leader Netra Bikram Chand, who is the coordinator of the new combative organization. “We will be in the service of people through the people´s volunteers — no matter whether or not we are in the government,” said Chand who was in Palpa the other day to set up people´s volunteers in the district. He said the party wants to employ the youths for development works, but added that they will also fight against reactionary forces if need be. Read the rest of this entry »
