Nationwide industry strike from Sunday

KATHMANDU, July 31: Demanding immediate implementation of the minimum wages fixed by the government, ten agitating trade unions have announced a nation-wide industrial strike from Sunday.

However, they made it clear that the strike wouldn´t be enforced in the firms which have already adopted the government-fixed salary, allowance and wages.

Most of the enterprises in Birgunj-Simara industrial corridor, three in Hetauda industrial estate, about half-a-dozen in Biratnagar and almost all employers in Butwal industrial estate have agreed to provide wages agreed by the government. After the agitation of ten trade unions, the government had hiked the minimum monthly pay to Rs 6,200 and daily wages to Rs 231. Read the rest of this entry »

Nepal’s Maoist Line Struggle Erupts in Organizational Splits

Posted by Alastair on March 14, 2011

We have yet to see an official statement from the central leadership UCPN (M) on these developments.

However, it is clear that the line struggles within the party are expressing themselves in the mass organizations affiliated to the party. This is a sign of a real and serious splitting apart.

These reports come to us from the bourgeois media – treat them with caution.

This site has already carried reports of an earlier split in the union. After Vice-Chairman of the ANTUF Badri Prasad Bajgain declared the formation of a new union federation, the party leadership stepped in and dissolved both the Bajgain group and the official leadership of the union, a group led by ANTUF Chairman Salikram Jammakattel. Until a national convention of the union can be held, Jammakattel is still in charge of the union, and the Bajgain group is reported to have continued parallel activities.

Bajgain is reportedly close to UCPN (M) Vice-Chairman Mohan “Kiran” Baidya, a leading advocate within the party for an immediate strategy of people’s revolt. Jammakattel is said to be closer to party Chairman Prachanda, and the leaders of this latest break-away union are reportedly close to Vice-Chairman Baburam Bhattarai.

The situation is fluid, with new developments coming in rapidly and little information that can be fully trusted. We recommend our readers to treat these reports carefully.

In many ways the question in such a split is “who gets marginalised.” Are the revolutionary elements of this party forcing out a faction unwilling to make a new revolution? Or is this party’s rightwing actively creatively a new and non-revolutionary political alignment? And, if both are happening, who succeeds in defining the political landscape and events. These are major events for revolutionaries, and we urge people to pay close attention and to actively learn deep lessons from these events.

Nepal: All Nepal Trade Union Federation (Revolutionary) Splits

Posted by n3wday on March 11, 2011

This article was published on eKantipur. We cannot confirm these reports, but want to note their presence in the capitalist press.

Maoist trade union ANTUF formally splits

All Nepal Trade Union Federation (ANTUF), the trade union affiliate of the UCPN (Maoist), split on Sunday. ANTUF Vice-Chairman Badri Prasad Bajgain declared a new “All Nepal Revolutionary Trade Union Federation”. The Federation had been plagued by serious internal conflict for a long time.

The conflict between two factions within ANTUF, led respectively by Chairman Salik Ram Jammarkattel and Vice-Chairman Bajgain, had also been obstructing the meeting of ANTUF. While Kattel is considered close to Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Bajgain is said to be close to Vice-Chairman Mohan Baidya.

Bajgain and ANTUF Secretary Govinda Paudel have been named Coordinator and Joint-Coordinator of the splinter faction. The Federation currently has 72 members. Read the rest of this entry »

Posted by celticfire84 on February 28, 2011

The following comes from the Himalayan Times. Though this information comes from the bourgeois press, it is with great interest that we examine this news and learn from this experience.

“Dahal said all the hotels and factories would be turned into barracks if the reactionary forces attempt to stop peace and constitution-drafting processes. He said his party would lead the revolt.”

“People had not believed when we were preparing for people’s war.” He said the dreams of the party and martyrs would not be realised unless the workers captured state power.”
