Nepal Election: Bhattarai is New Prime Minister

Nepal's new Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai from the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist).

Many reports are coming in confirming the electoral victory of Baburam Bhattarai, the new Prime Minister of Nepal. This particular article is from The Hindu. Bhattarai new Nepal Prime Minister

Nepal’s legislature-parliament on Sunday elected Baburam Bhattarai, Vice-Chairman of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), new Prime Minister. The Maoists were supported by the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF), an alliance of five Madhesi parties. In the House of 594 MPs, 575 members participated in the election and around 340 voted for Dr. Bhattarai, helping him secure a simple majority. Read the rest of this entry »

Nepal – Plenum Successful: Party Brought Together

Kathmandu, Nov. 27

The United Communist Party Nepal  (Maoist) (UCPM-Maoist) organised a press meet at Palungtar in Gorkha district on Saturday to make public the decisions taken by the party in its extended plenum.

Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Daha, Chairmen Baburam Bhattarai and Mohan Baidya, Spokesperson Dinanath Sharma, among others, marked their presence in the press meet.

Maoist Spokesperson Sharma said that the extended plenum, which was the largest gathering in the history of Nepalese politics, drew the attention of national and international bodies.

Nepal: Bhattarai’s Paper for Late November Central Committee Meeting

Unified CPN (Maoist) vice chairman Baburam Bhattarai met with party cadres of eastern region and apprised them of the content in his paper to be presented in the upcoming extended Central Committee meeting.

Maoist extended CC meeting is taking place in Gorkha from November 21. It is expected to take important decisions on the party policies, programmes and strategies.

The extended CC meet was called after the Central Committee could not sort out differences on major agenda among the top three leaders of the party.

The extended CC meet will discuss three separate political dossiers presented by chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and vice chairmen Mohan Baidhya and Baburam Bhattarai.

Bhattarai met cadres at the district office of the party and apprised them about the major points in all three documents.
