Two Roads Emerge over Nepal’s Future

Posted by Alastair on June 28, 2011

Two distinct lines are emerging in the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist)

A fierce struggle is taking place within the Maoist movement in Nepal. Thousands gave their lives and thousands more made great sacrifices during the People’s War, a decade long struggle for revolution and a radically new and better Nepal. More than five years after the People’s War ended, this dream has still not been made a reality. Radical forces in the party are calling for revolt, and they claim that the process of mergers has led to a right-wing majority in the Central Committee that obstructs their efforts. A reminder: posting does not imply endorsement of the views or confirmation of the information presented but share for the discussion of our readers.

Mergers the real game-changer in UCPN(Maoist)

KATHMANDU, June 24: With the UCPN (Maoist) preparing to endorse the line of peace and constitution, the party hardliners have been left with very few cards to counter the party establishment, which they say is deviating from the ideals of revolution.

Backed by Vice-chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai, party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal commands a comfortable majority in the CC to endorse the line, parrying stiff opposition put up by the hardliners.

But, that was not the power equation in the party till three years back. The campaign for unification with fringe leftist parties in the recent years turned the table against the hardliners led by Senior Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya. Read the rest of this entry »

Nepal: Maoist Central Committee Adopts Chairman’s Approach to Revolt

Posted by celticfire84 on December 22, 2010

The following comes from Republica. We remind our readers to exercise caution about information promoted from the bourgeois press and not take lightly issues of line struggle. However, things are in motion in Nepal and we should remain watchful of these events. Posting here, as usual, does not imply endorsement.

Maoist CC passes Dahal’s paper

KATHMANDU, Dec 18: The UCPN (Maoist) Central Committee meeting on Friday endorsed the political paper of party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal that proposes to go for a revolt if there is any conspiracy against peace and the new constitution.

The CC meeting held at party headquarters, Paris Danda endorsed Dahal´s political paper by voice vote as Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya, who had presented a separate political paper during the Palungtar plenum, supported Dahal, except in his review of the party´s history from the Chunwang meeting to date.

Nepal Maoists: Reports Allege Discussion of Faction Allignment

Posted by celticfire84 on November 28, 2010

From MyRepublica.

We urge readers to remember that these reports on the Maoist Central Committee meeting are, at this point, still coming to us through the bourgeois press — who have their own motives and worldview.  No one should assume that these are accurate. We will post actual texts of the various positions and speeches as soon as they become available in English. Pushpa Kamal Dahal is also known by his nom de guerre Prachanda, and Baidya is also known as Kiran.

Mohan Baidhya also known as Kiran, speaking at the recent plenum of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist)

PALUNGTAR,GORKHA, Nov 22: Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has held several rounds of talks with Senior Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya asking the latter to join forces against another Vice Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai in the party plenum that began on Sunday here in Palungtar, Gorkha.

According to party sources, Dahal has already held several rounds of talks with Baidya in this regard. “But Baidya has not so far responded positively to Dahal´s call for unity against Bhattarai,” said a Maoist leader close to Baidya.

With his relationship with Bhattarai souring, Dahal needs the support of Baidya, who has a strong hold among the party rank and file, to make his party line prevail in the plenum.
