Prachanda hinting at people’s revolt?

Posted by hetty7 on February 26, 2012

As of late, it seems Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) Chairman Prachanda has aligned himself with UCPN(M) Vice Chairman, Baburam Bhattarai to pursue a line of compromise with the reactionary parties of Nepal. Most disturbingly, Prachanda and Bhattarai (now Prime Minister) supported an agreement to disarm the People’s Liberation Army and disband the YCL. They also pushed through BIPPA, a trade agreement that allows India greater economic power over Nepal. And they seemed to have abandoned the Party’s official line  of going forward with a People’s Revolt–an urban insurrection that would seize state power.

But in the following article from My Republica,   Prachanda makes a number of statements that seem to indicate the possibility of a People’s Revolt in the near future:

Whipping up the party cadres, Dahal claimed that a people’s revolt will be inevitable if the NC and UML conspire to formulate a new edition of the 1990 constitution.

He also issued a threat to the parliamentary parties saying his party would launch a people’s revolt if they attempted to bring a new edition of the 1990 constitution. He also claimed that the achievements of the people’s war and peace process  and constitution drafting are at risk.

We should note that these statements are qualified. So far it is unclear whether this means Prachanda does have serious intentions to support a People’s Revolt. This development, if true, is potentially positive, as Prachanda remains a popular figure and symbol of the decade-long People’s War. His camp also includes many dedicated and deeply revolutionary cadres. We will keep a close watch on these developments.

The article also suggests that a prominent leader of the left wing of the UCPN(M),  Netra Bikram Chand, aka Biplab, seems to be putting the option of People’s War back on the table.

Of course, we caution our readers that this article appeared in the bourgeois press and may contain inaccuracies or information taken out of context.

People, not Supreme Court, will Decide CA’s Fate – Dahal

Nepal’s revolutionaries draft new plans for revolt

Posted by redpines on December 28, 2011

Revolutionary masses in Nepal

Late last week, UCPN(M) chairman Prachanda presented a document to the party’s Central Committee of the party, which contains a negative summation of the party’s attempts at taking power through a people’s revolt. And, reportedly, the document de-emphasizes the importance of taking state power in favor of alliances with bourgeois parties.  CP Gajurel, party secretary and member of the revolutionary faction, has called the document a “surrender”

In response,  Mohan Baidya ‘Kiran,’ Vice Chairman of the UCPN(M) is drafting a document defending the path of revolution, and proposing concrete plans to make it successful. We will be following these events closely and will post new information as it becomes available.

The following article appeared at MyRepublica. As usual, articles from the bourgeois press may not accurately reflect events on the ground.

Nepal: Baidhya Says People’s Revolt is Party’s Mandate

Posted by celticfire84 on December 18, 2010

The was in the Himalayan Times.

“Remaining together despite ideological and political differences is no good, for it makes the party just a joint front.”

KATHMANDU: Vice-Chairman of the UCPN-Maoist Mohan Baidhya ‘Kiran’ today said the party’s sixth extended meeting had mandated it to launch a ‘people’s revolt’. Addressing an interaction on ‘National Independence and People’s Republic’ organised by Samayabaddha bimonthly, Baidhya said the Palungtar meeting has also urged the party to fight for a people’s federal republic and national independence.

He said a communist party must be ready to split or merge with others whenever necessary. “Remaining together despite ideological and political differences is no good, for it makes the party just a joint front,” he claimed, justifying the disintegration of his party from Mohan Bikram Singh’s party earlier.

He claimed that Vice-Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai had begun making public the internal debates through Rato Jhilko news magazine. After this, other leaders have also started revealing the secrets, he said. Read the rest of this entry »
