Nepal: Maoist Central Committee to Meet

Posted by hetty7 on October 20, 2011

This is from myrepublica

The following statement is from “Nepal’s Crossroads: Without a People’s Army, the People Have Nothing” by Eric Ribellarsi and Mike Ely from Kasama.

“For over twenty years, the impoverished and isolated peoples in the southern Himalayan foothills have risen up to remake themselves and their world. Now, after the sacrifices of a whole generation, the future of their movement and society hangs in the balance:

Will the revolutionary sections of the people be able to carry through the struggle to create the radically new Nepal they have dreamed of? Or will the accomplishments of their struggle so far be consolidated into something that falls short of liberation.”

Two Roads Emerge over Nepal’s Future

Posted by Alastair on June 28, 2011

Two distinct lines are emerging in the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist)

A fierce struggle is taking place within the Maoist movement in Nepal. Thousands gave their lives and thousands more made great sacrifices during the People’s War, a decade long struggle for revolution and a radically new and better Nepal. More than five years after the People’s War ended, this dream has still not been made a reality. Radical forces in the party are calling for revolt, and they claim that the process of mergers has led to a right-wing majority in the Central Committee that obstructs their efforts. A reminder: posting does not imply endorsement of the views or confirmation of the information presented but share for the discussion of our readers.

Mergers the real game-changer in UCPN(Maoist)

KATHMANDU, June 24: With the UCPN (Maoist) preparing to endorse the line of peace and constitution, the party hardliners have been left with very few cards to counter the party establishment, which they say is deviating from the ideals of revolution.

Backed by Vice-chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai, party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal commands a comfortable majority in the CC to endorse the line, parrying stiff opposition put up by the hardliners.

But, that was not the power equation in the party till three years back. The campaign for unification with fringe leftist parties in the recent years turned the table against the hardliners led by Senior Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya. Read the rest of this entry »

Posted by celticfire84 on March 30, 2011

Prachanda, leader of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist)

The following comes from

UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal claimed on Monday that his party would not split as it is obvious to have minor differences inside a big party.

Speaking at a programme organised to welcome new entrants to the Maoists at the party headquarters in Parishdanda today, the Maoist chairman said that some minor differences within the party is giving the impression that the party is splitting, but that’s not going to happen.

“Minor differences are obvious in a big party,” said Dahal. “But the UCPN (Maoist) won’t split, rather, the party will become more united and ultimately the reins of nation will come in our hands.”

At a time when speculations are rife that the Maoists party is on the verge of split following ‘SMS rumor’ that ‘Vice Chairman Baburam Bhattarai is splitting the party’, Chairman Dahal dismissed it as just another rumor within a dynamic party.

He went on to say that his party has been striving to conclude the peace and constitution-drafting processes but some people are trying to foil it. Read the rest of this entry »
