Govt forms Land Reform Commission
The government has formed high-level Land Reform Commission headed by Haribol Gajurel, a Maoist leader.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers today decided to form the seven-member commission.
According to government spokesperson and communication minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara, the coalition partners will have one member each in the commission and one member will be from the National Land Rights Forum, which had staged days of protest in Kathmandu demanding a high-level commission to address the problems of landless people. nepalnews.com mk Dec 10 08

CPN(Maoist) leadership may seek the expertise of Debabrata Bandyopadhyay, intrepid, honest and capable ex-IAS officer, who was the real man ( not the CPI(M) minister for land reform and polit bureau member, the late Benoy Choudhuri) behind the famed Operation Barga. Now CPI(M) openly talking of reversing OB, Bandyopadhya is a bitter critique of CPI(M)-led Lefr Front government. He was a pick of the late HareKrishna Konar, ex-general secretary of All India Krishak Sabha.
Bandyopadhyay was commissioned by the Government of Bihar for land reform, but the government there was not serious about it.
